Auto stereoscopic Glasses-Free 3D Video Wall using 12 screens driven by AMD FirePro

Magnetic 3D today announced the their auto-stereoscopic “glasses-free” 3D video wall in partnership with ProntoTV and AMD FirePro.  The first implementation of the LCD 3D video wall is for a large-format, no-glasses 3D experience in the lobby of a major Norwegian wholesaler and retail franchiser.

The prominent glasses-free 3D video wall is more than 10 feet wide and stands over 8 feet tall. It uses AMD FirePro GPUs to drive a total resolution of 25 megapixels across twelve 46” Magnetic 3D displays in a 4 high by 3 wide configuration.


Vulkan is next generation low level OpenGL initiative with explicit GPU control

Khronos today announced Vulkan, a low level open standard API for high-efficiency access to graphics and compute on modern GPUs. The ground-up design, previously referred to as the Next Generation OpenGL Initiative, provides applications direct control over GPU acceleration for maximized performance and predictability. It’s a similar idea to AMD’s Mantle, Microsoft’s DirectX 12 and Apple’s Metal but intended to be fully cross-platform

The unified specification minimizes driver overhead and enables multi-threaded GPU command preparation for optimal graphics and compute performance on diverse mobile, desktop, console and embedded platforms. Vulkan also provides the direct GPU control demanded by sophisticated game engines, middleware and applications with the cross vendor performance and functional portability resulting from simpler, more predictable drivers.

AMD has contributed Mantle towards the development of Vulkan with Mantle being used to bootstrap the process and speed its development, making Vulkan a derivation of sorts of Mantle. (via AnandTech.

AMD FirePro S9150 supports intense compute workloads on HP ProLiant DL380 Gen9 Servers

Today AMD officially announced that the AMD FirePro S9150 server GPU is now available on the HP ProLiant DL380 Gen9, the world’s best-selling server. This combination targets a variety of specialized applications including Academic and Government clusters, Oil and Gas research, and Deep Neural Networks.

This is a very simple and compelling demonstration of the performance advantage of a professional AMD FirePro W4100 GPU ($159 on newegg) vs a similarly priced, but consumer Radeon R9285 GPU ($209 on newegg)for SolidWorks.  And this is just simple FPS.  Now add on other other SolidWorks-specific optimizations for FirePro cards, and you have a pretty compelling reason to go FirePro.

Real-world example of OIT transparency in SOLIDWORKS 2015 via AMD FirePro GPUs

If you haven’t seen examples of OIT (Order Independent Transparency) that AMD enabled in SOLIDWORKS, check out the video below.
OIT, the GPU-accelerated Transparency Mode provides a “pixel-accurate” representation of the model and its surrounding geometry. SOLIDWORKS 2015 builds on the OIT in SW 2014 by letting you enable OIT by component.

AMD has worked with SOLIDWORKS on a number of specific optimizations that take advantage of the FirePro W-Series GPUs.

See the Curved MultiTaction iWall driven by AMD FirePro at Digital Signage Expo

At Digital Signage Expo in March,  MultiTaction (booth 9-F137) will unveil their AMD FirePro-driven 12 display curved iWall installation with a total curvature of 90 degrees. This is the world’s first curved interactive multitouch commercial display wall.

iWalls are modular, customizable interactive display systems supporting an unlimited number of concurrent users, curvatures of up to 360 degrees and widths to up to 96 feet. It simultaneously detects an unlimited number of fingers, hands, IR pens and real life objects. It’s more than just a touch display; it is an experience.  Of course, driving all of the visuals and the seamless multiscreen display are AMD FirePro graphics.
